Law firm appoints two insurance partners

National law firm Weightmans has recently welcomed two partners to its insurance team.

Paul Hughes (pictured, right) joins Weightmans’ team in Newcastle, with the aim of establishing and growing a personal injury team for the firm in the North East. With more than 30 years’ experience, he has expertise in handling complex and high-value claims, specifically within the transport sector. He has also dealt with complex claims against police forces for malicious prosecution and false imprisonment, and matters involving catastrophic industry, fatalities and psychiatric injuries.

A member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers’ (FOIL) ADR focus team, he joins from Thomas Miller Law, where he was head of personal injury.

Alice Wilson (pictured, left) joins in London, where she will act for insurance clients across a broad spectrum of property and built environment claims, including, in particular, those relating to property and business interruption, as well as professional indemnity insurance. She is experienced in representing both claimants and defendants in high-value disputes. Alice also advises insurers in relation to policy coverage issues and subrogated recoveries against third parties.

Commenting on the appointments, John Schorah, managing partner at Weightmans, said: 'We’re pleased to welcome Paul and Alice to the team at such an exciting time for the firm. Between them, they bring many years of commercial acumen and extensive insight into the needs of insurers and the challenges they face, and have already become integral members of our growing practice.'
