Very few discrimination victims are getting the representation they need in courts and tribunals, an Equalities and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) report, ‘Legal aid for victims of discrimination’, has found.
Between 2013–14 and
2017–18 no workplace discrimination cases received legal aid funding for representation, and only one in 200 cases taken on by discrimination specialists received funding for representation, the EHRC found. Only ten exceptional case funding
applications for discrimination claims were made over a five-year period and none were granted. EHRC Chair David Isaac said: 'The current system is clearly in need of reform.’
