New law commissioner

Professor Nicholas Hopkins has been appointed law commissioner for property, family and trust law, joining the Law Commission this week to lead on projects examining charity law, marriage, family financial orders, wills and land registration. Prof Hopkins is currently Professor of Law at the University of Reading, and began his career in the early 1990s as a research assistant at the Commission. His particular interest lies in the law as it applies to land and his publishing portfolio boasts a number of land and property related titles. Commission chairman, Sir David Bean, says: “Professor Hopkins has an impressive academic history, and his knowledge and understanding of land and property law will be of particular value to our work.”
